Working to harness the vast potential of renewables to deliver a transformative, clean, sustainable, reliable, and cost-reducing energy supply for Alaska

Our Story

Alaska Renewables is a renewable energy development company rooted in Alaska. Founded in early 2021 in Fairbanks, we have grown from a small startup into a developer with a proven track record on Alaska's central grid, the "Railbelt." We have developed over 1 GW of combined wind and storage capacity across five projects, advanced from greenfield concept through development and now in the hands of Longroad Energy. That portfolio represents some of the most significant and construction-ready new generation prospects available on the Railbelt.

Building on that foundation, we have diversified into new renewable energy and energy storage technologies, broadening the portfolio of options available to Alaska. Wind remains a cornerstone, but the grid of the future will need more: solar, geothermal, storage, and complementary, diversified resources that work together to deliver firm, affordable, around-the-clock power.

Alaska faces energy challenges of unprecedented scale. In the Interior, aging and insufficient generation infrastructure leaves communities exposed, with heavy reliance on oil fuel driving high and volatile costs for communities that already have high energy burdens. In Southcentral Alaska, the supply of natural gas from Cook Inlet is declining rapidly, threatening the primary fuel source that powers most of urban Alaska. Decisions made in the next few years will shape the cost, reliability, and resilience of the Railbelt grid for decades to come.

Alaska Renewables is positioned to be part of the answer. Our projects can deliver large-scale, fuel-free generation at prices that compete head-to-head with thermal alternatives, replace declining gas with locally produced renewable energy, and bring new investment, jobs, and resilience to the communities that host them. We do this the way we always have — by listening first, working alongside the people and places where we operate, and building projects that make sense for Alaska on Alaska's terms.

Community remains the foundation upon which successful renewable energy projects are built. We acknowledge and honor the Alaska Native peoples upon whose ancestral lands we live and work — the Lower Tanana Dené Peoples, the Dena'ina Peoples, and the Ahtna Peoples — on whose traditional territories our communities and projects are located. We pride ourselves on a collaborative approach that addresses community concerns while bringing environmentally responsible and locally sensible projects to fruition.

We are here to serve the needs of our community. We would love to hear from you.

Alaska Renewables occupies the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of Alaska Native people that have resided, occupied, and called this land home. We recognize the historic Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now and those who were forcibly removed from their homes. In offering this land acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history and experiences.
